On Mindmeister, XMIND and Mind Mapping
posted in
Design, Geekery
It’s my personal opinion that mind mapping doesn’t get enough attention. Of course, I spend a lot of time in the “real world” blabbing on about mind mapping. Evangelizing, even. So I’m going to expound (again) on thoughts and tools for few bytes…

Forging a New System
posted in
Geekery
It’s been a weird week. I found together just when I needed it. And I had reached a point of frustration with Leopard problems in iGTD and had gone looking for other solutions only to find none. 1 hour after I gave up the public alpha of OmniFocus was released. I pre-registered for a license (good deal). Then Bartek announces iGTD2 with some screenshots/casts today and things are looking pretty competitive again. I just want one system I can trust and love! I’ve found my divorce rate with mac apps is about 90% and my typical relationship length is about a year. Development cycles and my interest level and needs tend to get out of phase at some point. Once I’ve settled into a new routine, I’ll be revisiting some of my productivity posts to talk about more current affairs. In the meantime, I’ll be trying to get to know OmniFocus better…

Group Productivity On The Web
posted in
General
I’ve been working to narrow down the array of possibilities for productivity apps at Circle Six Design. I’ve been looking for solutions that are accessible by both employees and clients, inexpensive and easy to use. Out of the array of possibilities, here’s my current list…

The Zombie Designer (or “Pownce on These”)
posted in
Geekery
We’re wrapping up what is proving to be one of our biggest months ever at Circle Six Design. More billable hours, more fun software releases, more blood, sweat and tears all around. It’s going to pay off in the end, I’m certain, but right now I’m a zombie. I’ve never worked so many hours in my life. A man should not work 20 hours a day, and if he does, he should take Sundays off. That’s my new plan, right there. No working more than 15 hours and I get weekends off. So there.

Project Management with Zoho
posted in
General
I’ve been trying out project management options, looking for a way to track everyone’s todo lists, meetings, time and clients in one place. I’ve eventually landed on Zoho Projects and purchased a paid account. I’m really happy with the options it provides and the interface it uses. Here’s a quick rundown…

Finally Finished, Almost
posted in
Web Design, Website Updates
I finally went live with the new version of the Circle Six Design site. It’s pretty heavy on the prototype.js with a lot of custom effects, but it’s completely valid and works just fine if you turn off javascript ;). It’s pretty much custom code from the ground up, still based on Wordpress, of course. I had a lot of fun doing this one and I’d love to know what you think!

Web Design
I was working on a VIRB design for a client when I was struck by the need to redo my own profile. It’s not quite finished yet, but I’m posting it and stopping for the night. See, I can quit any time I want to.

An Online Magazine: Circle Six Style
posted in
Web Design
We’re in the process of launching a new format for the Natural Communities magazine’s online presence this week, and have done a lot of custom Wordpress programming for it. Over the next few days I’m going to do a series on some of the finer custom points of the online magazine and how we’re pulling it off. We’ll cover a few topics…

GEMTD (getting even more things done)
posted in
Geekery
I may have to give up this new system based solely on the fact that I’m getting so much done that I can’t stop working. I was under the impression that if I was really productive, I’d have more free time. I keep thinking that I’ll get to that point when my to-do list shrinks, but every time it does, I’ve got an inbox and an action/response folder to take care of. But man, am I getting things done. Any doubts I had about the effectiveness of this system have been vaporized. I’ve been getting so much done in the last three days that I can hardly believe how unproductive I was before. Maybe that’s it, maybe I just had a long way to go…
