Yet Another Related Posts Plugin

Michael Erlewine has improved on the Wordpress Related Posts Plugin with Yet Another Related Posts Plugin. An improvement to the full-text search that allows limiting by a relevance threshold allows the most relevant posts to show up at the top of the list, so if you only display 5 results, they’re more likely to be of interest. It also allows control over retrieving both posts and pages. And for those less code-oriented, it can function without modification to your theme and has an improved options screen. Wordpress users should check it out!

UTW-rpc 1.5r: Fix for Fix
posted in
Geekery
I decided not to compensate for the new changes in xmlrpc.php regarding the date/time format, but rather leave it up to the user to upgrade their Ruby install if it was broken. The conversation that details this and links to more resources can be found here. The version that compensates is still available, but for those who’ve managed to get their Wordpress 2.2.1+ blog working with TextMate without the plugin, version 1.5r is for you. Sorry for any confusion and my indecision. Details on the download page.

UTW-rpc 1.5 released

Geekery
‘Bout freakin’ time. Adds Simple Tagging support, new xmlrpc methods, slug support and more. There’s a fix for TextMate users who broke with WP 2.2.1. When they get the date deal sorted out, I’ll update the plugin. Latest version on the Autotag/UTW-rpc page. There’s a new version of Autotag in testing right now, so TextMate users, patience, please…

XMLRPC Delays
posted in
Geekery
I’m putting the UTW-rpc bundle on hold for a minute while the Wordpress xmlrpc crew works out a few kinks in the date formatting. Because the plugin directly replaces the post and retrieve functions in the xmlrpc.php file, it needs to mirror the final outcome of the debate. So I think I’ll just avoid releasing a plugin that will break with an update that’s almost certain to come out immediately after. Well, more to the point, the plugin would break the update, albeit in an unnoticeable fashion (rendering it ineffective).

Upgraded

Website Updates
Well, I’ve been designing all of my new Wordpress sites with version 2.2, but just now finally got around to upgrading the blog. It seemed like a fairly painless experience with just a couple of plugin related glitches. I did it through Subversion so I’ll revert if anything goes terribly wrong. If you notice anything amiss on the blog, please let me know! In the meantime I’ve picked up work again on the Wordpress Theme Bundle for TextMate and will be releasing an updated version with a whole bunch of new, more advanced tags and options. I’m also almost through the testing phase for UTW-rpc and have a new AutoTag bundle to go with it. Still open to Beta Testers on that one, if you want in, let me know.

Just a quick note about a new site: wpzipper.com. It allows you to put together a pre-configured Wordpress install with your choice of plugins and themes and prepares it for installation. Registering for a free account lets you save configurations for repeat usage. Pretty nifty.
