If you read the original rotating VIRB headers post with great curiosity, you’ll want to read this. A great secret has been passed down to me from the top of the VIRB mountain…

  • 4.15.07 How-to: Rotating VIRB Headers posted in Web Design

I get a lot of questions about how to do rotating headers on VIRB profiles. So here’s a quick tutorial. If the technique provided here is beyond your skill level, you’ll probably need to find someone who can help you execute it. But if you’ve got enough skill to create between 2 and 15 headers of the same dimensions, and enough CSS knowledge to put them at the top of your page as a background image in a div, you can probably pull this off.

  • 4.5.07 Another VIRB (re)design posted in Website Updates

I got bored again. The microphone theme is going back up, but the VIRB profile is staying, no matter how bad it sucks.

  • 3.25.07 More on VIRB Styling posted in Web Design

I’ve tweaked my system for styling VIRB profiles a little and thought I would share the results. My system is tailored to OS X using TextMate and CSSEdit, but the basics are transferrable to any platform/editor. You could do this on a PC with Notepad, if you were exceedingly patient (or perhaps simpleminded). You do, however, need some basic coding skills and whatever graphic skills your profile dreams demand. Here’s my personal workflow…

  • 3.24.07 VIRBaholism posted in Web Design

I was working on a VIRB design for a client when I was struck by the need to redo my own profile. It’s not quite finished yet, but I’m posting it and stopping for the night. See, I can quit any time I want to.

  • 3.12.07 A VIRB Quickie posted in Web Design

Not sure why I didn’t try it before, but here’s a quick tip. If you modify your HTML section on VIRB and hit preview, then save the source of the preview to a file, you can separate out the CSS and HTML for live editing in CSSEdit.

  • 3.11.07 VIRB Customization Tips posted in Web Design

I thought I’d jot down a few notes on my experiences with customizing VIRB pages for those with enough skill to pull it off on their own. This is NOT a CSS primer, I’m just some workflow tips I’ve picked up on the way. It’s all fairly obvious, but I thought it might help some aspiring designers who might be doing things the hard way. I just finished redesigning my own page after a sleepless night…

  • 3.10.07 Now I’m a VIRB Designer posted in Web Design

Reality Photography on VIRBLooks like I’m jumping into the custom VIRB profile market. I just finished up a page for Reality Photography that I think came out really well. I’m going to re-do my own page and start an archive of custom pages in a VIRB photo album. I’m also considering posting a tutorial on VIRB customization after I do a couple more and work out the kinks in my workflow. Stay tuned.

  • 3.7.07 GTD Flip-Flop and other news posted in Geekery

I’m back to & ToDo / Task Management Application for Mac & Windows">Easy Task Manager. Actiontastic is cool, but too lightweight for my current needs. Most of what I want it to do is either promised for the future or not in development at all, which eventually made me question why I was trying to make it work. I’ll settle for poor aesthetics and pretty good functionality (and a very nice pricetag) on Easy Task.

  • 2.20.07 Virb Blurb posted in Geekery

Virb ScreenshotThanks to Kristin Pishdadi, I’ve got an account on the beta site for virb.com. It’s a new social networking site. Yes, another social networking site. But I like this one because it has all the charm of Myspace, only they’ve turned the suck way, way down. A nice Ajaxified site with a far more usable interface, it’s got profiles, music, movies and all the usual jazz. Plus, they actually encourage CSS customization and make it very easy to do. You can even control the XHTML layout of the profile portion of the page. Great possibilities. I styled the default layout this evening just to see what I could do with it. I’ll probably have a lot of fun with it, especially if the site takes off. If anyone wants an invite, let me know, I have a few to give away (and I love having friends ;-)).
