  • 6.1.07 Semantic Details posted in Web Design

When we did our Circle Six redesign, it was important to me that we go out of our way to make this our most semantic and accessible site yet. Clean, semantic code was the goal, and here are some details that we considered that you may want to keep in mind for your next project…

  • 5.24.07 Finally Finished, Almost posted in Web Design, Website Updates

I finally went live with the new version of the Circle Six Design site. It’s pretty heavy on the prototype.js with a lot of custom effects, but it’s completely valid and works just fine if you turn off javascript ;). It’s pretty much custom code from the ground up, still based on Wordpress, of course. I had a lot of fun doing this one and I’d love to know what you think!

  • 3.1.07 Selling Standards posted in Web Design

I think that web designers (myself included) spend too much time trying to sell our obsession with standards to our clients. The fact of the matter is that clients don’t care whether or not a page validates. As web designers and developers trying to sell standards, we need to concentrate on things that our clients actually care about. Things like the speed of their site and, of course, the cost. But […]

CSSEdit 2 is out! This thing is sweet. Even if you like typing code by hand (which I do) the dynamic preview modes look amazing. The validation and milestone features are very cool. I’m excited, in case you can’t tell. For $30, you can’t go wrong! After an eternity of testing, […]

  • 8.9.06 How important is validation? posted in Web Design

I have a confession to make. While I work hard to make my businesses homepage validate, and I try to keep my smaller sites validated, I let it slide on bigger sites. And I let warnings pile up. And I started wondering if I was alone… This post on boompa.com seemed to validate […]

  • 6.23.06 Validated. Emotionally and via the W3C. posted in Website Updates

Our current homepage is validated, XHTML and CSS. For those who don’t know, that simply means we took the time (and tears) to create a page that meets the W3C standards for web design. This can do everything from improve cross-browser consistency to help search engine placement. And it translates […]
