MoodBlast with Applescript Goodness
posted in
Geekery
MoodBlast now has Applescript support. That means you can use all of its functionality from any program that supports Applescript. If you have a program to monitor track changes in iTunes, you can use that as well. And you can blast from Quicksilver with this simple action…

Reverse Shortened URLs with Quicksilver
posted in
Geekery
This is a quickie I created whilst working on something else. It allows you to copy a shortened url (urltea, tinyurl, etc.) and hit a key combo to display it’s destination URL in large type. It could be modified to do a few other things such copying back to the clipboard and could take input in ways other than the clipboard. It’s essentially just a shell command and doesn’t even have to use applescript or quicksilver. Anyway…

So many new features…
posted in
Geekery
I’m a little depressed that I’ve become so obsessed with MoodBlast that I haven’t posted anything but updates here. Between work and MoodBlast I’m finding there’s only 24 hours in a day and that’s just not enough. I need to slow the rotation of the planet just a little. I’m going to get started on my series of tricks I’ve learned in the making of MoodBlast after the weekend. But for now, 2.49.5 is out and here’s the changelog…

MoodBlast 2.49.3: YouTube, Tumblr and more…
posted in
Geekery
MoodBlast 2.49.3 is out. There’s relatively extensive Tumblr support, as well as some features for posting YouTube links/videos. I also came up with a solution for the Facebook “Brett Terpstra is…” prefix peculiarity. The help file has been updated to include the new features, but here’s a copy of the Changelog…

MoodBlast 2.20, Growing Up Fast
posted in
Geekery
Well, somehow I’ve managed to finish up version 2.20 of MoodBlast. We jumped a few versions because I screwed up my numbering scheme and this is not a bugfix, it’s a feature release. What a mess. But we’ve got configurable @keywords, Jaiku locations, an undo feature for wayward moods, a few fixes and more interface tweaks. Here’s a rundown…Read the rest of MoodBlast 2.20, Growing Up Fast...

MoodBlast: Standalone MoodSwing
posted in
Geekery
Well, I had to learn a little Objective-C to pull this off, and it’s not beautiful (yet), but MoodBlast is a menubar version of MoodSwing, the script for updating iChat, Adium, Skype, Twitter, Jaiku and Facebook simultaneously (or any combination thereof…). It uses the same syntax, but allows for selecting of services with checkboxes right from the submission window. It can be called up with a system-wide hotkey (Control-Shift-M), and has all of the same features as MoodSwing. If you’re not a Quicksilver fanatic, this might be for you! Actually, I’m almost liking it better because of the quick selection of services, but don’t tell Quicksilver that. I added it to the MoodSwing download page, so they have to learn to get along now.

One More Mood Swing
posted in
Geekery
If you’re digging MoodSwing, grab this version. It adds more dependability, and iTunes support and current weather ability. Use the instructions in this entry, but you can now use !itune to insert the currently playing iTunes track. And, modified from a Colloquy script, you can type an exclamation point followed by your 5 digit zip code to insert the current weather for your area. So !55987 will come out in the format “Right now in Winona: Sunny and 76°, 56% humidity.”

MoodSwing 2 and Qurl Clipboard
posted in
Geekery
After being featured at TUAW yesterday and getting a few comments, I decided to take a closer look at MoodSwing. I’ve added a few new @keywords, more Skype support, Jaiku support, and the ability to clear out your mood message on your chat clients…

MoodSwing, The Script
posted in
Geekery
Okay, one person suggested it and I felt like trying. Here’s a mostly functional version of the Moody Applescript that will simultaneously send your status and mood to iChat, Skype, Twitter and Adium, depending on what’s currently available. It checks to see what’s running, and if you have a Twitter password in your keychain. It works relatively well for me, although not completely dependable. I’m putting it out there for people to play with, but have no intention of taking bug reports or offering support. Have at it. Use the instructions on the Moody page to install.

Shorter Twitter Sidebar Links
posted in
Web Design, Geekery
A quick note for people using Twitter and Wordpress. You’ve probably noticed that nasty problem I was having where the twitter sidebar links were overlapping the blog’s main text on the front page when twitter failed to tinyurl the link. Well, I fixed it…
