Pandora Better
posted in
Geekery
I have a new favorite Pandora interface: PandoraJam. It’s a native Cocoa app (Mac only) that gives you keyboard shortcuts for Pandora, last.fm scrobbling and recording to iTunes with album cover tagging. It’s shareware ($15). I’m having a blast with it. I’m uncertain of the legality of it, but I’m enjoying taking my Pandora stations on the road with my iPod…Read the rest of Pandora Better...

Pathway: Wiki Breadcrumbs
posted in
Geekery
Pathway is an amazing little OS X tool for surfing Wikipedia. It lets you see a map view of the pages surrounding your search and then creates a breadcrumb trail of your path through the pages. You can add multiple start points, track notes and files for each page, download and preview images and re-arrange the maps by dragging. It’s a sweet tool for research, and great fun for downtime!Read the rest of Pathway: Wiki Breadcrumbs...

Nagios: Sysadmin’s Best Friend
posted in
Geekery
Nagios is one of those “I can’t believe it’s not butter” discoveries of mine. Except replace butter with commercial and add “and that I didn’t find it sooner”. It’s opensource server\service monitoring software with notification features and plugins and it’s flippin’ awesome. I slept better last night than I have in a long time…Read the rest of Nagios: Sysadmin’s Best Friend...

MAMP Universal Binary
posted in
Web Design, Geekery
MAMP 1.6 is out as a universal binary (Mac Apache MySql PHP). Version 1.4.1 is available as both Intel and Power PC only downloads from the same page. I still haven’t tried MAMP Pro, but the combination of MAMP, Headdress and a good Subversion workflow have kept me plenty happy.

Mindmeister Goes Live
posted in
Geekery
Mindmeister has gone live with all in all of its mind mapping glory. With the ability to import and export from FreeMind, the free, cross-platform mind mapping software we raved about a little while ago, and its own set of easy-to-use features, this should be a stop for anyone who, um, thinks? Not sure what a mind map is? Check Wikipedia… For more information on Mindmeister’s features, including keyboard-only navigation, map sharing and change notification, realtime collaboration and more (mostly free, some premium features at $4/mo), visit their home page.Read the rest of Mindmeister Goes Live...

CSSEdit 2.5
posted in
Web Design
As a beta tester for CSSEdit 2.5, I can tell you that the new features are awesome and SO many little bugs have been fixed. First, the much talked about tabs were added. Then we got the ability to see what styles in the sheet were affecting a selector in X-Ray. Then we could click the style and jump right to it in the stylesheet. Faster image updates and less choking on Javascript in the previews. And most importantly (to me), command-return now functions as expected in all situations! Read more about it at the MacRabbit site.

Wrapping Up on Subversion
posted in
Geekery
Well, it’s been a fun ride. I’ve done my best to share my experiences and hopefully a few people learned along with me. I know that Subversion has become a great part of my development cycle and that I will continue to use it and develop similar work cycles into the future. As a final hoorah for the series, I’m just going to mention a few things…

Circle Six Favorites: Spring 2007
posted in
Geekery
I need a break from the Subversion series, so I’m taking a moment to list some of the most exciting OS X software and a few of my current favorite websites/apps. I don’t know how long or short the list will end up, so I refuse to either limit myself to 10 or set such high expectations ;).

Keeping up with iGTD
posted in
Geekery
I can’t keep up with this guy. He just released version 1.3.4 of iGTD and it boasts a ton of new features. It adds niceties like autocomplete on tags and multiple links for projects and has meaty features like smart folders with “due in x days” filters. Awesome quicksilver integration as well. This is it, I’m sold. Here’s the list of new features from the forum:

iGTD 1.3.3 released
posted in
Geekery
Hot on the heels of the 1.3.2 release, iGTD gets another increment. This one adds nested projects, fixes the priority filter and improves on a few existing features. This app is developing very quickly. A week ago I loved it enough to donate right away, but if this keeps up, I may have to send more money.
