On Mindmeister, XMIND and Mind Mapping
posted in
Design, Geekery
It’s my personal opinion that mind mapping doesn’t get enough attention. Of course, I spend a lot of time in the “real world” blabbing on about mind mapping. Evangelizing, even. So I’m going to expound (again) on thoughts and tools for few bytes…

C6 Top Mac Apps 2007: Presentation
posted in
Geekery
Whether you’re a designer or a software engineer or in some area between the hemispheres of the brain, there are multitudes of reasons why you would want to make a clear and professional presentation, be it a screencast, a software manual, or a quick mockup for a client. These are a few of my favorite tools for making presentations that impress without breaking too much of a sweat. I’m saving online tools until a later part of this series, so the cool online slideshow and PowerPoint replacements are going to wait a bit…

A Square Meal for your Mac
posted in
Geekery
In the midst of working on the next installment of our “Top Mac Apps” series, I just spent my allowance and my lunch money at “Give Good Food To Your Mac”, a mac software promo that I think I got an early invitation to yesterday. It appears to be open to the public now. The beauty of this one is that you get to choose which apps go in your bundle with full knowledge of what you’re getting (and a chance to try before you buy), and get volume discounts up to 70% off. And the selection is excellent, in my opinion. With a base including apps like CSSEdit and Boinx iStopMotion Home, the list is topped off by a few newcomers and some video apps that I’m excited to put to work. Take a gander, spend some hard earned cash. You’re worth it.

C6 Top Mac Apps 2007: Geeking Out
posted in
Geekery
There are some things that normal people (the ones who spend less than 50% of their lives in front of a computer) just don’t need to know about. These probably fall into that list. For the rest of you, here are some of my favorite highlights from the “Geekery” world:

C6 Top Mac Apps 2007: Productivity
posted in
Geekery
Well, the year is quickly coming to an end and I thought I’d chronicle our latest Mac app adventures. So what makes this particular list of OS X app picks special? First, I’m not doing reruns, so you’re not going to hear about TextMate and Quicksilver all over again. This list assumes you’ve picked up on the basics from at least one of the gazillion top ten lists on Digg, and made your own decisions. Second, this list isn’t a popularity contest. Some of the apps I’m including aren’t popular (yet), some aren’t even widely known. I dig through a lot of apps to find what’s going to work the best for me (and hopefully look good doing it), meaning I offer this list as nothing more than a documentation of my findings. As always, I’d love to hear what you’re using…

MoodBlast 2.0
posted in
Geekery
Okay, this is it. I’m letting MoodBlast 2.0 out into the wild. It’s probably got bugs, and I’m hoping to find them and fix them quickly. It’s got a slew of new features. I’ve implemented quite a few user requests but still have quite a few to go. I feel like Bartek must feel (on a small scale), trying to keep up with user demand on what basically amounts to free software ;). Here’s a quick feature list…Read the rest of MoodBlast 2.0...

C-Command, the makers of the excellent Spam filtering software, SpamSieve, have released an app called Eagle Filer. This app seems to have existed under the radar for a little while now, but I thought it was time to give it a try. I’m now a die-hard user. Here’s why…Read the rest of EagleFiler: Productivity and File Management...

Path Finder Update
posted in
Geekery
Path Finder has been updated to 4.7.1 with a bunch of fixes and features. First of all, Subversion support is no longer experimental, but considered stable. I’ve been using it since the last release with good luck and enjoy having it built into my GUI file manager. The move-to-trash delay has been significantly decreased, and the “Open With” menu is finally sorted by application name. For a full list of changes, see the Path Finder changelog.
