  • 6.5.07 Fine Tuned 404 posted in Web Design

As part of the Circle Six redesign, I culled the portfolio and in the process broke just about every link that Google had indexed. A new sitemap and some redirect pages are taking care of SEO, but in the interim, a lot of visitors are getting 404 pages. So I borrowed a tip from the blog and added a suggest feature to the C6 404 page

  • 6.4.07 Moving Wordpress 2 posted in Web Design, Geekery

Here’s round 2 of my Wordpress Move script from yesterday. It now figures out if your home address is different from your base url and if so, it strips the path off of the home address and appends it to the new base url to create a new home address. This makes the assumption that both your url and home are on the same domain. I’d be interested to know if anyone finds other uses for this or if there are any feature requests. If not, it’s serving my purposes and probably won’t go any further, but you never know.

  • 6.2.07 Moving Wordpress Faster posted in Web Design, Geekery

Move Site ScreenshotI’ve got a new script, but it has a very limited usage. I built it because I develop a lot of sites on my laptop using a local testing environment. In order to test my sites in VirtualBox with Internet Explorer, I have to use my local IP as the url for my Wordpress sites. Which means I end up changing the url and home address of the sites pretty often, sometimes directly through mySQL after I’ve already switched location. So here’s my solution…

  • 5.12.07 30Cal Upgrade posted in Geekery

Yep, a major upgrade already. And I still got some work done today. My server got hacked, so that took up part of the day, but anyway… The new version (1.5) is now an application and has improved support for recurring events and skipped dates in recurring events. The API Key and User Token are now requested by the script and stored externally so you can upgrade without copying and pasting. And thanks to that innovation, the file is now an app so that it’s easier to run. Check the download page for the latest version.

Gotta love 30 Boxes, and I know you love Quicksilver. Throw in Growl and I think we’ve got an applescript…

  • 4.1.07 New Feature: Old Post Alerts posted in Geekery

Introducing a new feature on the Circle Six Blog: Old Post Alerts. I’ve modified Alex King’s plugin to include related posts that are newer than the current post. So if the post is over 1 month old, it tells you in general terms how old the post is, and then, if available, offers newer posts that may be related. Here’s the code…

  • 2.19.07 Quicksilver, Twitter, and Wordcount posted in Geekery

TwitterrificThis is a quick hack of the Tweet script by Coda Hale. It adds a quick call to the Unix command wc (wordcount) that checks to make sure your text is under 140 characters before posting to Twitter. It requires Growl for OSX. This version also uses the Twitterrific icon for visual pleasantry, so I highly recommend installing it (it’s a great little program), otherwise removing the single reference to the program in the script. • 1.18.07 TextMate in Path Finder posted in Geekery

I claimed in my last post that Path Finder had great integration with TextMate, and it does to an extent. However, I had forgotten that it takes quite a bit of fiddling to get any kind of decent project management out of the context menus (and some more third party applications). So […]

  • 11.12.06 Interactive Templates for TextMate posted in Geekery

I’ve devised an interactive templating bundle for TextMate. I still don’t have a great grasp on Interface Builder, but enough to scrap together other people’s work and make a decent form or menu out of it. But I do have enough grasp of Ruby to do something cool with it. What I’ve […]
