Pandora Better
posted in
Geekery
I have a new favorite Pandora interface: PandoraJam. It’s a native Cocoa app (Mac only) that gives you keyboard shortcuts for Pandora, last.fm scrobbling and recording to iTunes with album cover tagging. It’s shareware ($15). I’m having a blast with it. I’m uncertain of the legality of it, but I’m enjoying taking my Pandora stations on the road with my iPod…Read the rest of Pandora Better...

I get a lot of searches coming in related to iGTD. So, inspired by a recent article on 43 Folders, I decided to offer a few of my own tricks for working with what I consider to be one of the best GTD apps for the mac.

VirtualBox: Open Source Virtualization
posted in
Geekery
VirtualBox is an Open Source x86 virtualization product available for OS X. Functioning along the lines of Parallels, but free, I’ve recently gotten XP up and running on my Intel based MacBook Pro and have Internet Explorer versions 5-7 open for testing my websites without having to boot up my old PC. In fact, now I can sell my PC ;). VirtualBox is simple, powerful and easy on the eyes. I had XP up and running in 30 minutes, and 27 of that was the actual XP install. I especially recommend this product if you’re a web developer who needs to test websites cross-platform. I’m currently working on figuring out how to approach a localhost test server in a way that will let me access it from both platforms while I’m working. Once I get that down, I’ll let you know how I did it ;).Read the rest of VirtualBox: Open Source Virtualization...

iGTD Review: 1.4
posted in
Geekery
Here’s the greatest thing about the new release of iGTD: Way fewer “hacks” are necessary to make it conform to a more GTD-like workflow. It’s got a revamped interface with much more fluid ways of handling things like “maybe” tasks and “wait for” tasks, plus it adds handling for next actions and start dates. And you thought it was great to start with! Check out the list of new features and go ahead and download it to try out. It’s still donationware, and according to the author, always will be. I went ahead and made a second donation on account of this being such an extensive upgrade that if it were a commercial application, I would have charged my users for it ;).

Tangerine: Sticky Sweet Color Management
posted in
Design, Web Design
Tangerine is a new color management app for OS X that provides designers with a consistent palette for creating color palettes that translate between applications. It functions as a floating palette available from all applications and adding colors can be done with copy and paste, a dropper (magnifying glass) or with input sliders. The colors are then available with the click or drag of a swatch in any of your applications. It works with profiles and adjusts for different screen modes. In my short time experimenting with this program I’ve fallen in love with it. This is an excellent extension to the built in Color Picker and in tandem with a good Color Wheel makes for an excellent color management setup. If you deal with color, in print or web, check this out!Read the rest of Tangerine: Sticky Sweet Color Management...

Circle Six Favorites: Spring 2007

Geekery
I need a break from the Subversion series, so I’m taking a moment to list some of the most exciting OS X software and a few of my current favorite websites/apps. I don’t know how long or short the list will end up, so I refuse to either limit myself to 10 or set such high expectations ;).

iGTD Review: My Saviour
posted in
Geekery
TUAW beat me to the punch, but I’m happy to report that I have finally found the GTD app that I plan to stick with for a good long while now. iGTD has all of the features that I need and none that I don’t want. It’s got the fun of Actiontastic’s Quicksilver integration, the GTD mindset of Midnight Inbox, the multiple views of & ToDo / Task Management Application for Mac">Easy Task Manager, and it doesn’t look too shabby either…Read the rest of iGTD Review: My Saviour...

FreeMind: Free Your Mind

I couldn’t sleep last night. I had an idea that was literally driving me to the brink of insanity with its incessant evolution in my mind. Let’s just say it was a doozy. That being said, what I ended up doing about it worked really, really well, and the tool I chose ended up really impressing me.Read the rest of FreeMind: Free Your Mind...

NoteMind: Review
posted in
Geekery
I’m playing around with some new software right now called NoteMind. It’s in the vein of DevonNote and Yojimbo (et al), but has some standout features and a simplicity that I adore. I’m within a couple clicks of purchasing it right now. I could actually see it replacing Yojimbo for me, but can’t, at this moment, live without Yojimbo’s tagging and smart folders. However, there are a few things that I think NoteMind does better…

The next post in this series will be about Internet applications for OS X, but first I wanted to focus on web browsing, and I have to admit that I’m very partial to Firefox. There are a few people that I highly respect that put their money on Safari and some of the […]
