  • 2.20.07 Virb Blurb posted in Geekery

Virb ScreenshotThanks to Kristin Pishdadi, I’ve got an account on the beta site for virb.com. It’s a new social networking site. Yes, another social networking site. But I like this one because it has all the charm of Myspace, only they’ve turned the suck way, way down. A nice Ajaxified site with a far more usable interface, it’s got profiles, music, movies and all the usual jazz. Plus, they actually encourage CSS customization and make it very easy to do. You can even control the XHTML layout of the profile portion of the page. Great possibilities. I styled the default layout this evening just to see what I could do with it. I’ll probably have a lot of fun with it, especially if the site takes off. If anyone wants an invite, let me know, I have a few to give away (and I love having friends ;-)).

  • 2.4.07 I need my space, part 3 posted in Website Updates

For anyone who cares to know more about me than the last few movies have revealed, I’ve updated my myspace profile again. I’m not asking anyone to read it, but it sure looks pretty. And no, you probably can’t have the code, unless you can steal it yourself. If you can’t figure out how to rip the code from a page, you probably should just stick with the Hillary Duff bling things with all the flashensparkenbitzenflyin (it’s German, I think.).

  • 9.11.06 TV: grim future, firm footing in the present? posted in marketing

A snippet from Seth’s Blog: 98.2% of the households in the US have a TV, and virtually all of those TVs have cable. No easily digestable statistics on Tivo or Myspace usage, but check out the original article for a few more thought provoking stats. The statistics come from a variety of sources and are […]

  • 9.7.06 Facebook: seeing the bubble from the outside posted in General

The debacle over Facebook has made us all take a look at the blogosphere’s connection to the “real” world. How in touch are those inside of the “web 2.0″ bubble? How many times can I use quotation marks in a “post”? Wait and see. What bloggers had originally lauded as a step forward […]

  • 9.5.06 The revolution is a bubble. posted in General

The prevailing wisdom right now clearly states that Web 2.0 is a bubble. A “frothy“, “fuzzy” bubble. And all this time I thought it was a revolution… So where does revolution meet the idea of a bubble? As I see it, Web 2.0 probably has an inflated sense of itself. The […]

  • 9.2.06 The music war is on. DRM shields up. posted in marketing

Samsung has joined the fray, along with Microsoft, Myspace and Spiral Frog/Universal to compete with iTunes. More options, more music, right? DRM issues aside, here’s my biggest problem. With the exception of Myspace, they all seem to be planning proprietary formats that can only be used on certain brands of players. […]

  • 9.1.06 Myspace and DRM-Free Music posted in marketing

This article at Mashable just popped up around 10pm CST. Myspace is apparently planning to sell the music of 3 million unsigned bands without DRM protection, in MP3 format. This could be more of a competitor for iTunes than the whole Spiral Frog deal. Just legitimizing DRM-free MP3’s once again seems […]

  • 8.28.06 Beyond viral marketing. posted in marketing

In the dawn of Web 2.0, viral marketing is presenting a new medium for brand exposure and a new definition of marketing. I was trying to decide whether to pontificate on the Long Tail, or to write about Contagious Marketing. And then it dawned on me that the two go hand in […]

  • 8.27.06 Viral Marketing on a local scale. posted in marketing

My media sales reps will disagree with me on this one, but the fact of the matter seems to be that the face of marketing is changing. Or rather, it’s in a change-or-die situation. The noise level has increased to a breaking point and technology has made people saavy to a point […]

  • 7.1.06 New myspace theme posted in General

Black and blue, baby I love you…“Beat Me” -Adam and the Ants I’ve redesigned my Myspace profile yet again. This time I’ve gone with a dark theme, which only highlights the gaudy banner ads all the more, but I had to try it. I played around with checkmarks to determine which links you had […]
