  • 8.19.07 MoodBlast: Standalone MoodSwing posted in Geekery

Well, I had to learn a little Objective-C to pull this off, and it’s not beautiful (yet), but MoodBlast is a menubar version of MoodSwing, the script for updating iChat, Adium, Skype, Twitter, Jaiku and Facebook simultaneously (or any combination thereof…). It uses the same syntax, but allows for selecting of services with checkboxes right from the submission window. It can be called up with a system-wide hotkey (Control-Shift-M), and has all of the same features as MoodSwing. If you’re not a Quicksilver fanatic, this might be for you! Actually, I’m almost liking it better because of the quick selection of services, but don’t tell Quicksilver that. I added it to the MoodSwing download page, so they have to learn to get along now.

  • 8.16.07 MoodSwing 4 posted in Geekery

Okay, MoodSwing 4 is ready. I think I’ve fixed the Facebook problems. Facebook changed their authentication procedure on the SSL version of the login page, probably to stop scripts like this. The only way in now is through http, which means your password is sent in plain text. You’ll have to be the judge as to whether that’s worth the risk. I’ve also fixed a bug with Adium where trying to go from Offline status to anything else wouldn’t work. I’ve added some features as described on the download page, and have once again rewritten the preference storage method. I think I’m settled on that part now, but if you’re a current user, I’m afraid you’ll have to enter your passwords one more time. The preferences are all consolidated in one file now. Lastly, I’ve separated the config section into a plain text file that can be put into the Actions folder and, if it exists, will override the defaults in the script, providing a handy way to edit the template defaults without the hassles of loading Script Editor and all the related apps. Check it out at the download page.

  • 8.13.07 Grand Hysteria (MoodSwing 3.4) posted in Geekery

MoodSwing 3.4 is out and has some significant changes, including, I think, a great new icon. It took me a while to figure out how to preserve the icon on a script when distributing it, but I’m hoping I got it. I’m sure I’ll hear about it if I don’t. I added the ability to make calls in Skype while telling all of your other chat clients you’re on the phone and changed the username/password method to request them once and then store them in the Preferences folder with blowfish encryption. Let me know how it works out for you.

Okay, I’ve gone mad. MoodSwing now does international weather, Facebook and is unbelievably flexible and configurable. When I say unbelievable, I mean I can’t believe how crazy I got with it. I hope you enjoy! I owe credit to a few people, I’m still fleshing out the original sources for all of my snippets. If you know you deserve a mention, let me know. Visit the MoodSwing page for the incredible details ;).

  • 8.11.07 One More Mood Swing posted in Geekery

If you’re digging MoodSwing, grab this version. It adds more dependability, and iTunes support and current weather ability. Use the instructions in this entry, but you can now use !itune to insert the currently playing iTunes track. And, modified from a Colloquy script, you can type an exclamation point followed by your 5 digit zip code to insert the current weather for your area. So !55987 will come out in the format “Right now in Winona: Sunny and 76°, 56% humidity.”
