  • 2.19.07 Marshall McLuhan’s Ghost posted in Web Design

Get a New Browser posted a link to some very cool work today. Check out the page for KSU’s Digital Ethnography class and watch some of the videos. The one titled The Machine is Us/ing Us is an inspiring look at the meaning of Web 2.0. A meaning we may have forgotten in the rush to monetize new technologies. A lot of cynicism has built up around the new face of the web and I found these videos, and some of the responses, to be a refreshing discourse on the new state of human communication. It makes me want to stop marketing and start improving the world, which makes me stop and wonder why I’m not improving the world through my marketing. Food for thought, and possibly a restless night.

  • 2.3.07 Small Business Tools posted in Design

I’ve been working on filling a few holes in our day-to-day operations, and trying to find the most elegant solutions. I wanted to share a couple of them here in the hopes that they would help out people in similar situations. The business we run is a very small design and marketing agency, but the tools I’ve found apply to any small business that bills for services and needs to manage sales contacts. I’m looking for comments and suggestions!

  • 1.12.07 The Death of the Middle Man posted in marketing

It’s terribly exciting to me that music predictions could be coming true, as potentially indicated by this report from the BBC, quoted from The Long Tail: Essex rock band Koopa could become the first unsigned group to land a UK top 40 hit thanks to new chart rules. Their download-only single Blag, Steal & Borrow is on […]

According to an article at CNET, Google is testing out radio, newspaper and magazine ads as part of its AdWords package. Print mediums were tested last year, but it wasn’t until now that radio was available to AdWords customers. The test is limited to around 20 AdWords customers right now, but is […]

  • 11.13.06 Snakes on a Plane Redux posted in marketing

It’s been a while since we’ve talked marketing, and what better subject than movies? So the manufactured Buzz of SOAP failed to translate into box office dollars. Does that mean that the model itself was a failure, or just that you can’t market a bad product? The film Borat was released last weekend, and […]

I had a conversation today with a representative of a cable television company. I brought up my concerns regarding the changing face of advertising and the legitimacy of television advertising in the coming years. We had a lively discussion and some very valid points were made. I don’t think either of […]

  • 8.28.06 Beyond viral marketing. posted in marketing

In the dawn of Web 2.0, viral marketing is presenting a new medium for brand exposure and a new definition of marketing. I was trying to decide whether to pontificate on the Long Tail, or to write about Contagious Marketing. And then it dawned on me that the two go hand in […]

  • 8.27.06 Viral Marketing on a local scale. posted in marketing

My media sales reps will disagree with me on this one, but the fact of the matter seems to be that the face of marketing is changing. Or rather, it’s in a change-or-die situation. The noise level has increased to a breaking point and technology has made people saavy to a point […]
