Mending (Jott) Fences
posted in
Geekery
I’m extremely pleased to report that after publicly expressing my frustration with my communication with Jott.com, they almost immediately responded in surprise. Apparently there was a breakdown somewhere along the line, but information is flowing very smoothly now. I can now begin a full rewrite of Jott2iGTD as a standalone, far less buggy program. No more scraping HTML emails! No more RubyCocoa! It’s going to be sweet (I’m desperately hoping). In the meantime, I’m hearing mixed reports about the 2.4 version I uploaded this morning. I’m going to attempt to fix some remaining bugs and try again, but I’m totally swamped right now. But I will always do my best to serve my readers, at least until I keel over from exhaustion ;).

Jott2iGTD2.4 Ready… I think
posted in
Geekery
Jott2iGTD 2.4 is ready for download, which should be especially good news for anyone who’s using an older version and didn’t make it into the beta testing round. It seems to be working for everybody and is revamped to work with the new Jott email format. Jott has become a source of frustration for me, though… Read the rest of Jott2iGTD2.4 Ready… I think...

Jott2iGTD Woes
posted in
Geekery
Looks like my work on Jott2iGTD has been revived. Jott just completely revamped the format of the emails they send, rendering the current parser useless. I’ll be rewriting it as quickly as possible and getting a new version out as soon as I can.Read the rest of Jott2iGTD Woes...

Four Days, One Measly Update
posted in
Circle Six Happenings, General
Somehow, four days have crept by in blog time. Which is approximately four days in Earth time, as well. Circle Six has been overflowing with projects and we’re really excited to be completely swamped. We’re recovering from a recent three-day photo shoot for St. Croix, and all of the post-processing that goes with it has our photographer, Peter, pretty busy. He posted one of the more interesting shots on his blog…

Expanding Jott2iGTD2 (You can help!)
posted in
Geekery
Jott support will be expanding and improving on Jott2iGTD2, but in the meantime I’m running into quite a few people (including the author of iGTD) who can’t use Jott because it’s US and Canada only. I’m looking to find similar services available in other countries that I can expand Jott2iGTD to support. If you have a service that you use, let me know and send me a sample email that it sends you. It doesn’t have to be a voice transcription service, it can be anything you use to send yourself emails when you’re on the road…

Jott2iGTD Context Keyword Fix
posted in
Geekery
I got reports and confirmed that Jott regularly mistakes “context” for “contact”. I didn’t want to have the script automatically replace contact because it may be an important word to use in a task description. The keyword has been changed to “do at” followed by the context name. The only caveat is that Jott will interpret this to “due at” on a regular basis, which the script compensates for, but you’ll need to make sure you say “due by” if you’re putting a due date into the task description or notes. The script does not currently handle due dates or start dates due to the complexity of translating dates and the need for an external library like chronify to make it work well. There’s another minor release on the download page.

Holy Cow! Jott2iGTD 1.1
posted in
Geekery
I had a bit of a brainstorm. We can run the sqlite3 command line utility as a shell command and get the output as an array. No extra libraries needed. Sorry to anyone who’s already installed sqlite3-ruby, but it won’t hurt anything ;). The download page has been updated with version 1.1, which is back to just the applescript and ruby script with no external libraries required.

Jott2iGTD 1.0
posted in
Geekery
This is a major upgrade to Jott2iGTD, which allows you to add tasks to iGTD with your cell phone (via Jott.com). It improves on the ability to handle a slew of Jotts at once, and adds contexts and projects with Levenshtein guessing (because Jott naturally has trouble interpreting the proper nouns we often use for our project titles), as well as tags, better note support and priority levels…

Jott2iGTD 0.9
posted in
Geekery
I hope everyone thinks this is as cool as I do ;). Jott2iGTD is a pair of scripts that allows you to easily post tasks to iGTD from your cell phone using Jott.com. All you need is (rather obviously), iGTD, a Jott account, and a cell phone. Check out the download page for more info.Read the rest of Jott2iGTD 0.9...
