  • 10.2.07 MoodBlast 2.49… Facebook, Baby! posted in Geekery

MoodBlast 2.49MoodBlast 2.49 is out. I’ll be updating the download page in a second, but auto-update will work right now. Facebook is back, Accuweather support is added, and there are a ton of enhancements…

  • 9.3.07 I Had to Test Sparkle (MoodBlast 2.1) posted in Geekery

MoodBlast Pill JarWell, it appears the auto-updates work, after a little bump that hopefully nobody noticed. The new version improves MoodBlast’s ability to return to the previous foreground window when the panel is closed, instead of forcing you to grab your mouse or ⌘-⇥ to it. I did forget to mention one feature in the previous post: MoodBlast now downcases the first letter of a string when posting to Facebook. Given the way Facebook displays your mood (Brett Terpstra is…), it looked awkward to have a capital in the middle of the sentence and was inconvenient to have to post sentences beginning with lowercase letters to every other service. So now you can just start your sentence with a capital letter and let MoodBlast handle the rest. While I’m writing, I thought I’d give you a list of up and coming features, as well as some hopes for the not-too-distant future…

  • 9.3.07 MoodBlast 2.0 posted in Geekery

Okay, this is it. I’m letting MoodBlast 2.0 out into the wild. It’s probably got bugs, and I’m hoping to find them and fix them quickly. It’s got a slew of new features. I’ve implemented quite a few user requests but still have quite a few to go. I feel like Bartek must feel (on a small scale), trying to keep up with user demand on what basically amounts to free software ;). Here’s a quick feature list…

  • 7.19.07 It’s my party… posted in General

Well, it was my Birthday today. I got a lot of good wishes, in person and via the internet, which kept me going through an otherwise perfectly awful day. But all that aside, Bartek got me an advance copy of the next iGTD and the new notification system rocks. You can add tasks and archive items through any interface that can send cocoa notifications, including rubycocoa, so porting the current version of Jott2iGTD was simple. I should be ready to release the next version about the same time he’s ready to release the new iGTD. Improved guessing algorithms, way better parsing system, date handling, all that jazz. Coming soon…

  • 7.13.07 News from CulturedCode posted in Web Design

SylescopeIt’s been a little while since we’ve heard from them, but CulturedCode has released a new version of XyleScope and has plans to release a GTD-based ToDo manager called “Things”…

  • 5.28.07 Ajax Usability: Tab History posted in Web Design

Today’s tip gleaned from my experience in building the latest Circle Six Design website is more of a hint, or suggestion, than a how-to. It’s mostly about javascript, and my javascript is pretty crazy for this, mostly because I’m not very experienced with javascript and it’s kind of hacked. However, what I got working is worth sharing…

  • 5.14.07 iGTD Review: 1.4 posted in Geekery

Here’s the greatest thing about the new release of iGTD: Way fewer “hacks” are necessary to make it conform to a more GTD-like workflow. It’s got a revamped interface with much more fluid ways of handling things like “maybe” tasks and “wait for” tasks, plus it adds handling for next actions and start dates. And you thought it was great to start with! Check out the list of new features and go ahead and download it to try out. It’s still donationware, and according to the author, always will be. I went ahead and made a second donation on account of this being such an extensive upgrade that if it were a commercial application, I would have charged my users for it ;).

  • 3.20.07 Ubergeekcoolness posted in Geekery, Circle Six Happenings

So our landlord has consented to let us put a touchscreen in the wall outside of the main entrance to our newly expanded office, allowing us to have a message board for our clients and visitors who come while our limited staff is out to meetings or working out of the office. I want it to have a snazzy interface that shows, in Twitter style, where each employee is in general terms, what they’re doing and if and when they’ll be back. I want it to be easy to update and accept texts from mobile phones, so I may actually interface with Twitter. I also want it to be able to accept messages from people using an onscreen keyboard. Now I just have to find the time to make the interface…

  • 2.22.07 Where do you to-do? posted in Geekery

A new contender for my extensive to-do list management needs: Todoist. It’s interface requires me to change my methods a little from what I’ve been doing with Backpack, and it doesn’t appear to have an API, but it’s fluid and has major benefits. It provides the ability to attach a date and a priority to each item and you can query by date and automatically sort a to-do list into a day, week or other view. Editing and sorting are fluid and Ajaxified, and there’s a plethora of shortcut keys for people who are keyboard oriented (I most certainly am).

  • 2.20.07 Virb Blurb posted in Geekery

Virb ScreenshotThanks to Kristin Pishdadi, I’ve got an account on the beta site for virb.com. It’s a new social networking site. Yes, another social networking site. But I like this one because it has all the charm of Myspace, only they’ve turned the suck way, way down. A nice Ajaxified site with a far more usable interface, it’s got profiles, music, movies and all the usual jazz. Plus, they actually encourage CSS customization and make it very easy to do. You can even control the XHTML layout of the profile portion of the page. Great possibilities. I styled the default layout this evening just to see what I could do with it. I’ll probably have a lot of fun with it, especially if the site takes off. If anyone wants an invite, let me know, I have a few to give away (and I love having friends ;-)).
