  • 4.23.07 A Few Thoughts on Coda posted in Web Design

I seem to be the only one not thinking of switching my entire web development platform to Coda. I’m not saying it couldn’t ever happen, but in my last 2 hours of experimenting I’ve been suffering from Dreamweaver flashbacks.

  • 4.23.07 CSSEdit 2.5 posted in Web Design

As a beta tester for CSSEdit 2.5, I can tell you that the new features are awesome and SO many little bugs have been fixed. First, the much talked about tabs were added. Then we got the ability to see what styles in the sheet were affecting a selector in X-Ray. Then we could click the style and jump right to it in the stylesheet. Faster image updates and less choking on Javascript in the previews. And most importantly (to me), command-return now functions as expected in all situations! Read more about it at the MacRabbit site.

  • 3.25.07 More on VIRB Styling posted in Web Design

I’ve tweaked my system for styling VIRB profiles a little and thought I would share the results. My system is tailored to OS X using TextMate and CSSEdit, but the basics are transferrable to any platform/editor. You could do this on a PC with Notepad, if you were exceedingly patient (or perhaps simpleminded). You do, however, need some basic coding skills and whatever graphic skills your profile dreams demand. Here’s my personal workflow…

  • 3.12.07 A VIRB Quickie posted in Web Design

Not sure why I didn’t try it before, but here’s a quick tip. If you modify your HTML section on VIRB and hit preview, then save the source of the preview to a file, you can separate out the CSS and HTML for live editing in CSSEdit.

  • 3.11.07 VIRB Customization Tips posted in Web Design

I thought I’d jot down a few notes on my experiences with customizing VIRB pages for those with enough skill to pull it off on their own. This is NOT a CSS primer, I’m just some workflow tips I’ve picked up on the way. It’s all fairly obvious, but I thought it might help some aspiring designers who might be doing things the hard way. I just finished redesigning my own page after a sleepless night…

  • 1.9.07 Better CSS Debugging with OSX posted in Web Design

CSS has never been the easiest part of web design. Browser inconsistencies, holes in the specs and some things that we just haven’t figured out how to do can leave a designer a little frustrated (and thinking about slicing up an image in Fireworks and building on of those table things). But […]

Based on feedback, questions and searches that have been coming into the blog, I’ve determined that a little more detail on a few topics is in order, so the following blog posts are in the works: Teach Yourself TextMate: MacHeist put a lot of copies of TextMate on the street, and people like me are spouting […]

  • 12.25.06 Wordpress Theme Development Workflow for OSX posted in Web Design

Having spit out several Wordpress custom sites in the last few days, I thought I’d detail my current workflow on my Macintosh OSX platform for posterity. It’s changed a little since the last time I wrote about it, and I feel like it’s at a point where, with some minor tweaking and a […]

  • 11.6.06 News in brief posted in Web Design, Geekery

I’ve added a couple of bugfixes to my recent releases. There was a span closing tag missing from the applescript for blogging quotes from your RSS Reader, and I added a version for NetNewsWire. There were a couple of bugs in the related post commands for TextMate which have been corrected. I’ve explored a […]
