  • 1.23.07 Landing Sites, WP-Cache and Google Reader posted in Web Design, Geekery

One of my favorite functionalities of this blog was the Landing Sites plugin from The undersigned, which I lost when I started using WP-Cache. So I needed to change a few things.

    1. I needed it not to display a landing site page for Google Reader users
    2. I needed it to work with WP-Cache which was becoming more and more vital as my traffic increased
    3. I needed a modified version that would break apart the request string on a 404 page and try to guess what the user was actually looking for and offer helpful suggestions, in the case of broken or malformed links to my blog

  • 1.20.07 Lamenting Digg posted in Random Thoughts

I like the idea behind Digg. I’m not a big fan of how it pans out, though. I don’t submit my own articles anymore, but every once in a while one gets Dugg to the homepage and I’m unprepared for it. I had been working on my server today and had […]

  • 1.13.07 Until We Run Out Of Ink posted in Website Updates

Amidst preparations for our planned expansion, client jobs and work on my next article, I realized that I had sorely neglected the print style sheets for the Circle Six Blog. So now if you decide to read any of the tutorials on this blog offline (heaven forbid you should waste the paper), you […]

  • 1.7.07 Another look at ModX posted in Web Design

I’m working on a CSS-debugging article, but in the meantime I thought I’d share a more sober look at the ModX CMS. I took a chance and used it to put together a static site AND a blog site for a client who needed both. I wanted a consistent login and editing […]

  • 1.1.07 Blog Theme Revision posted in Website Updates

I’ve revised the Microphone theme to handle multiple resolutions. It needs some tweaking and I haven’t tested in Explorer yet. I kind of rushed development on it and may have made it live prematurely. Please let me know if you run into any major problems. The goal was to make […]

  • 12.31.06 Server Switch-a-roo posted in Circle Six Happenings, Website Updates

Well, I’m now a server admin. Like I didn’t have enough to worry about. But Circle Six Design had hit a point where it no longer made sense to use a shared host but we’re not big enough to have a full time IT person yet. So it’s up to me […]

  • 11.4.06 A stroke of brilliance, maybe posted in Web Design

I just had what might be my greatest idea in a while. This comes at 7:15AM on a Saturday, after being up since 2am, and after 4 shots of espresso and 2 nicotine lozenges. I’m still recovering from all the bad luck of the last couple of weeks (brown recluse bite, dead […]

  • 10.17.06 All the news that’s fit to blog posted in Random Thoughts, Circle Six Happenings

I made my trek to Minneapolis with one of our largest clients yesterday to Art Direct a photo shoot with photographer Jim Arndt. We shot 50 model shots and 6 laydown stacks in 12 hours. That’s a little insane, but we pulled it off. I handle the catalog layout and art […]

  • 9.2.06 Circle Six (re)Design posted in Website Updates

I’ve gone and redesigned the blog again. The web 2.0 joke wore off for me. If anyone wants the buttons, you can have ‘em ;-). So here’s the new “fantasy” design. A Midsummer Night’s Dream inspired. Because it’s almost Fall and I miss Summer. I’m very open to comments on the […]
