MoodBlast 3.2: Leopard Only!

Note: This post is over 5 months old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

With version 3.2, MoodBlast is now Leopard-only. This is to ease future development of a program that I love… but that doesn’t exactly pay the bills. This change does allow for a slicker interface and memory management will continue to improve as I rewrite chunks of code. If you’re still on Tiger, don’t upgrade! Your current version will continue to function and you won’t be missing much for a while.

If the updater doesn’t work for you, please visit the download page!

Interface redesign (HUD) and a change to the way Facebook prefixes are handled.

Changelog

  • HUD.
  • Facebook “is…” option is now configurable to use any prefix you like. If you want the default behavior, input “is” into the box in the Passwords panel. You can leave it blank for no verb, or use something like “is MoodBlasting:” to avoid having to modify prefixes for Facebook posts.

    Soooooo
I’m sure you get this question all the time but… What about MySpace? This is just the app I’ve been looking for, for a long time. But I need it for iChat/Facebook/Myspace.

Thanks anyway for getting me most of the way there :-)

I use moodblast almost exclusively in conjunction with Applescript through Quicksilver, applying pre-defined status changes through single key-combination-presses using Quicksilver triggers. This is incredibly convenient, and Moodblast has become one of those apps on which I find myself heavily dependent, almost taking its functionality for granted.

When I restart my computer or logout, however, Moodblast reverts to having no services selected by default, and inevitably, the first time I press one of my hotkeys, I stare stupidly and the screen before realizing that I need to open up Moodblast, select my services, and send an asdf before my Quicksilver triggers will work.

Of course, this is an incredibly minor annoyance and is almost entirely unnoticeable compared to the overall usefulness of the app, but I was nevertheless wondering if there was some simple workaround that would make Moodblast open with a given set of services selected and ready to accept Applescript. Thanks.

Great app, just what I was looking for, though I need Google Talk/Gmail Chat as well. Can I look forward to it in the near future?

  4. Alex 05.31.08 / 2pm

If you add Gtalk to Adium or to iChat, Moodblast should change its status along with all your other statuses. Google doesn’t offer a standalone Gtalk client for the Mac, as far as I’m aware, so the only way to use Gtalk except through a browser is via an app that Moodblast supports.

plurk integration would be superb! :-) Thanks for the great app!

    plurk integration is seconded!!!!

    Thanks for the app. Nik.

I know this might be a daft question, but have you though about making this a app for iPhones ?

I waiting paitently for Monday know to see what Saint Steve preaches!!!

I’m trying to get in touch with Plurk about an API that I can hook into. I haven’t received a response yet.

I’ve considered an iPhone version. While it would be nice to have a native app, a lot of the things that make MoodBlast convenient wouldn’t be possible, and there are a growing number of web services that can handle all of these updates and are optimized for iPhone. That’s not to say it won’t happen, I’m just kind of watching to make sure it’s going to be worth the time (and figure out what features I could offer that the web apps don’t :).

@Alex, somehow I missed your post. I’ve had moments where MB wouldn’t hold on to service selections but they’ve gone away before I’ve figured out why. I’m still working on that one, but I believe it’s running into a conflict when writing the out to system defaults.

You can, of course, use the override syntax in whatever script you’re using with QS. Starting a blast with a carat (^) immediately followed by s,a,i,p,t,u,j and/or f will skip the services check and send to the services specified.

    ^stf Testing this out.

will send “Testing this out.” to Skype, Twitter and Facebook. So if you’re QS blasts are always going to the same services, you might as well hardcode those overrides in the script anyway :).

Beautiful. Works perfectly. Thanks a bunch.

New issue today, though: Adium 1.3 beta seems to break it.

  11. brett 06.12.08 / 11am

Just got back from San Francisco (WWDC) and will take a look at the Adium beta as soon as I can.

  12. Eivind 06.27.08 / 12pm

Support for the Adium Beta would be brilliant. And I guess it would help make moodblast ready for the next major Adium upgrade as well. Thanks for this really nice software ^^

Hey tried launching the latest version of Moodblast on Mac Os.X.10.4.11, none of the names appear except the greyed out ones. Tried the older version, seems to work fine.

  14. Brett 07.02.08 / 9pm

You did read the title on this page, right? The HUD format that I’m using now shows up as solid grey in Tiger, so the lighter type is unreadable. That, and a few under-the-hood changes mean the current version doesn’t work on 10.4

  15. Brett 07.02.08 / 9pm

That wasn’t meant to sound snarky :). Just ironic that the headline in my browser reads “Leopard Only!”

  16. Ryan 07.02.08 / 11pm

sorry, new mac user … wasn’t really sure which I had. I suspected as much after I posted though. Great program though!

  17. mark 07.07.08 / 3pm

moodblast doesn’t seem to update adium at all. it’s probably my user error, as i’m new to both of them. any clues?

  18. zickzackv 07.21.08 / 9am

Adium 1.3b currently does not work. Could you please fix this?

  19. steve 08.29.08 / 11am

Adium 1.3 is out of beta now, so many people will be updating. Having MoodBlast work with Adium 1.3 would be a real plus.

  20. brett 08.29.08 / 8pm

Working on it, hopefully this weekend but I can’t make promises. It’s my wife’s birthday :)…

    Hi,

I just got an iPhone and I am missing MoodBlast in a big way.

I just want one app that I can open - type my stuff into - and post to facebook, twitter, and whatever else.

Obviously the other stuff (iChat, Adium) doesn’t make sense right now. But I currently need to launch several apps to get my mind out.

    Cheers :)

Have your say
