MoodBlast 3.1 saves the day?

Note: This post is over 4 months old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

MoodBlast 3.1 is available in auto-updates and on the download page. Release notes follow…

Changes in 3.1

If the updater doesn’t work for you, please visit the download page!

A rewrite to solve all the “boolean” AppleScript problems, as well as add some new functionality (Pownce links, removed character limit for services that support longer blasts). This version creates a new preference file. You preferences will be blank upon startup, but your previous preferences will not be overwritten in case you revert to a previous version.

Changelog

  • AppleScript code fix
  • New preferences written to com.circlesix.MoodBlast3.plist
  • Option to set Pownce blasts to “Public” or “Friends” added to Password preference pane
  • Pownce blasts containing links will be set as link type.
    • If the link is the last item in the blast string, the preceding text becomes the note body and the url is sent as a link
    • If the link is first or in the middle of the string, the url is replaced with “[link]” in the blast and the url is sent separately as a link.
  • The character limit has been removed unless Twitter and/or Jaiku are selected for the blast.

    Hi,

love MoodBlast, miss two things though.

    1. I’d like to send certain blasts (especially from iTunes via Proxi) without growl notifying me.

    2. iTunes/Proxi-blasts (on track change) overwrite blasts I setup manually. There should be an option to append them. Or to blast only if there’s no text that will be overwritten. Tim

    Hi,
I am getting Pownce posting error. Growl only reports “Error Posting” and I’m not sure where to get more error log.

  3. brett 03.12.08 / 11pm

@Tim I’m playing with your requests right now

@jim Are you behind a proxy? I’m working on proxy handling, as that seems to be the main source of such problems.

  4. Damien McKenna 03.13.08 / 1pm

One key feature requirement - a way to verify your passwords were entered correctly for each service. I had mistyped my twitter password and kept getting obscure XML errors from it, rather than moodblast recognizing the error and notifying me of the incorrect password. Perhaps for v3.2? Good stuff otherwise.

Pownce error here as well. Worked fine on update, then 1 day ago started giving the error.

    “Error posting”

Still a great piece of software though - well done.

  6. David Harrison 03.23.08 / 3pm

I too am getting the Pownce “Error posting error”.
I am not behind a proxy and the Pownce posting did seem to work okay for a few days after the release of 3.1. If anything it looks like Pownce has changed the API or it is broken for some users.
I don’t suppose there is a way of enabling a debugging mode in Moodblast?

  7. brett 03.23.08 / 6pm

There is, by default, some info available in the console while MoodBlast is running. But it doesn’t help much with this problem. I’ve actually had it happen to me, and it stopped as quickly as it started, which leads me to believe it may be something on the Pownce side.

Quick test for anyone having this problem: try erasing your Pownce user/pass in the preferences, save and quit MoodBlast, then start up and try setting up Pownce again. Let me know if that helps as it may help me narrow down the problem either way.

  8. David Harrison 03.23.08 / 10pm

I deleted my Pownce username/password, saved the settings, restarted MoodBlast and reentered the details and everything worked again. Have restarted MoodBlast and Pownce is still working.

It would appear that the issue was something to do with the MoodBlast preferences….

  9. jim 03.24.08 / 12am

brett - did as you suggested. But the error returns after I rebooted. Same thing when I deleted the preference file. It’ll work the first time. But once I reboot, it’ll give the error again.

That aside, MB is a good thing to have :)

  10. brett 03.25.08 / 9pm

I figured it out. For various and sundry reasons, MoodBlast uses a shell call to base64 encode the user/pass for Pownce. Something strange happens with the path environment variable and programs that are loaded at login. sh was handling the echo -n (and \c) differently than bash, so I forced it to bash and presto.

New release should be out in the next 24 hours.

  11. Larry Vincent 03.26.08 / 11pm

I would love to update my gmail talk status with the rest of my accounts.

  12. Justin Fleming 03.27.08 / 5am

@Larry Vincent That’s why I use Adium - so moodblast can update Gtalk via that.

  13. Oscar 03.27.08 / 5pm

    Your product rocks!

Only one possible bug/error, when trying to retrieve weather from Turin Italy i get an XML error. Maybe international locations are not available?

    Thanx in advance!

  14. Brett 03.27.08 / 6pm

I’m sitting at an airport typing on my touch, so I can’t test… When I get home on Tue. I’ll send you a debut script so we can figure that out.
