A Facebook Compromise

Note: This post is over a year old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

Facebook PossibilityI’m working towards a Facebook compromise. It will allow MoodBlast to update your Facebook feed up to 10 times a day. Legally and using Facebook’s API (if we can call it that). It’s not as great as changing your status, but it will serve basically the same purpose. I originally wanted to just create a MoodBlast app for Facebook and have it updated by a desktop client, but that seems to be out-of-bounds, along with most useful API functions. So I’m working with what I’ve got.

Facebook is SO restrictive with their (non)API. I’ve been working on an app, and it’s just so darn useless.

They really are cracking down hard on all the poor developers who want to use the site while they prep for their IPO.

I know. Just when I got my app to do what I wanted, I found out that the 10/day restriction applies to the developer as well. How am I supposed to develop and test when I can only try 10 times a day?

As much as I applaud your efforts, what will a MoodBlast app accomplish that you can’t currently do by simply installing the official Twitter app for Facebook and publishing your status updates to Twitter with MoodBlast (my current setup)?

You, my friend, are awesome. I had taken a couple of days off from my attempts to make Facebook do things it just wouldn’t do, the whole time asking myself that same question. All I needed was to hear one single person ask that question so I could STOP. Twitter and Jaiku can both do what I’m trying to do, and quite nicely. That’s cool, because I’m about to introduce some sweet new features, including your original request to hide/show menubar and dock icons ;). Those are finished as of this morning, just have to finish up a couple of other things before the release!

Have your say
