I’m gonna give this a go Brett, but what I really wanted to say was you continually amaze me with your output of goodies, and seemingly endless skill to create anything on any platform. I give you a humble bow Sir.
MoodBlast 2.0

Okay, this is it. I’m letting MoodBlast 2.0 out into the wild. It’s probably got bugs, and I’m hoping to find them and fix them quickly. It’s got a slew of new features. I’ve implemented quite a few user requests but still have quite a few to go. I feel like Bartek must feel (on a small scale), trying to keep up with user demand on what basically amounts to free software ;). Here’s a quick feature list…
- New interface
- User Configurable Hotkey
- Preference Panel
- Fix for Adium Glitches
- Dropdown menu on menubar with open, preferences, help and quit
- Support for copy, cut and paste in entry window
- Immediate focus of input box on panel load
- Automatic updates
- Switched from Qurl to URLTea
- Clicking off the panel will hide it, unless preferences are open
- Dropdown list of recent moods, autocomplete function for built in commands
- UTF-8 Support. Kanji may still be a problem.
- Preference panel support for “Open at Login”
There’s more to come. Check out the download page for a link.

Thanks (humble curtsy) for supporting my bizarre, obsessive drive to learn new things ;). I got my Cocoa and Objective-C books in the mail yesterday, but I’d already hacked this project together pretty well. The next version will probably be a complete rewrite with much cleaner code…

Great idea! I’ve been looking for something like this—thanks.
Unfortunately, I’ve managed to find a bug in MoodBlast 2.1.
After updating Twitter and Facebook successfully with a normal text post, I updated again later and this time there was a problem.
The post was something like:
currently reading: http://clevercycles.com
When posted the text was exploded out to look something like this:
c</title>u</title>r</title>r</title>…etc…
Further testing found that if I restarted the app it would post fine, but only for one post. The second post would be given the same treatment as above—even a post which does not contain an URL.
Thought you’d want to know. I look forward to future releases!

Yep, just found this one myself. I don’t know what changed, but I’m working as fast as I can to fix it!

I think I’ve got it… 2.11 should fix it. Let me know if it doesn’t!

I’m getting this when I blast from iTunes to Skype & Facebook.
“Simon is listening to So young but so cold by %trackartist.”
BTW the tracks I have tried - all have “clean” straight Artist titles - no funny characters or accents.

Just got that report from another user in Japan. I’m looking into it right now (at the expense of my actual workload ;).

Hey, nice job.
One thing that I can’t seem to understand, so maybe it’s a bug. Using the !weather string (even with c or f at the end), the temperature is matched with the wrong symbol, as if it did the conversion in reverse. Any way to fix it on my side?
(I’m using 2.12) Thanks -
09.04.07 / 5am
I can’t seem to replicate that one. I’ve got perfect consistency: Flickr shot. My defaults in preferences are set to Fahrenheit, and the commands shown are (top to bottom) !weather, !weatherc, !weatherf. What’s your default set to? Anything else going on?

Here’s a screenshot of what happens to me. Do you think it might depend on different system preferences? (My system is set to metric.)
-
09.04.07 / 6am
@tony: Do system preferences affect the response Google gives you? And what is your weather location string set to? I couldn’t get “Imola Bologna, Italy” to work, but just using “Imola, Italy” returned 61 degrees F and 16.1 degrees C. Try searching Google for “weather Imola, Italy” and see what results you get.

Actually, I had set the location to “Imola, Italy”, but it still returns “Imola Bologna, Italy” (Bologna being the province, so it makes some sort of sense).
Anyway, I tried again setting system prefs to “USA”, even logged out, even deleted all MoodBlast-related files and started afresh, and nothing different happened.
I guess it’s just one of those things…

It’s doing the horrible title tag junk on my Facebook and Twitter status… I’m not sure how to fix it. Any ideas?

Have you updated to 2.12?
-
09.04.07 / 5pm
Just a thought, the down-casing of the first letter on FaceBook is pretty clever, but perhaps shouldn’t be done if the first word of the status is *all* capitals, i.e an abbreviation?
Anyway, great app :)

Leave it to common sense and logic to make my life difficult ;). Good call, I’ll work it in.
Edit: Got it, it will be in the 2.13 release.

Not sure what the problem was, but I reinstalled everything and it’s working fine, I’ve got a blogpost scheduled to go up in a few days about MoodBlast, hopefully get you some publicity. :-)

So what did happen to Facebook? I happened to love that feature! They’re not very friendly in my experience either though…

Hello, I don’t know if this is the place to post bugs and requests. Anyway first of all I would like to thank you for a frickin’ awesome app!
But I wonder if it’s possible to add a tiny little feature to run MoodBlast totally hidden. I want to be able to remove the icon from my menubar and just use my hotkey for MoodBlast. It really would be great if you could add this little feature.
Keep up the good work!

This is a great place for bugs, and an even better place for requests. I get most by email, but this way everyone can see what’s already been requested… like the hidden icon feature. I’ve actually been working on that for a while now due to prior requests. I’m planning to have a panel in the prefs that allows you to turn on and off both dock icon and menubar icon, as well as a secondary menubar option with a grayscale version. I’ll write a post in the next day or two about the planned features of MoodBlast now and through version 3.

That sounds great brett, just what I’m was hoping for!
It should be that hard to fix (says the guy who dosen’t know anything about Cocoa :P) but this feature is already avaible in apps like Quicksilver.Keep us updated ;)

I don’t mean to be rude, but the answer is 5 comments up from here and I’m growing weary of explaining. Just add the twitter app to Facebook and then update Twitter.

Facebook just updated their API’s, allowing for updates and photo uploads.
http://developers.facebook.com/documentation.php?v=1.0&method=users.setStatus
Here’s hoping it’s not too much of a pain to update Moodblast to use the new APIs.

I’m in shock, but you’re right. It shouldn’t be too difficult considering the work I’ve already done trying to get my app to do something useful. The test platform works perfectly. I’ll keep you posted.
