  • 09.27.07 Facebook API Update posted in Geekery

Facebook Status APIWell, they did it. Facebook is allowing status updates through their API. You have to get “Extended Permissions” from the user, which is pretty scary for the user, but if you want to update your status from an external app, it shouldn’t be that scary. And since I’ve already done most of the work to get MoodBlast working with a homebrew Facebook app, it shouldn’t take too much to get it moving in this direction. Thanks to Reid for the tip! This will delay the next release of MoodBlast a little, but I’m sure you’ll all find it worth it in the end.

  • 09.21.07 Mending (Jott) Fences posted in Geekery

I’m extremely pleased to report that after publicly expressing my frustration with my communication with Jott.com, they almost immediately responded in surprise. Apparently there was a breakdown somewhere along the line, but information is flowing very smoothly now. I can now begin a full rewrite of Jott2iGTD as a standalone, far less buggy program. No more scraping HTML emails! No more RubyCocoa! It’s going to be sweet (I’m desperately hoping). In the meantime, I’m hearing mixed reports about the 2.4 version I uploaded this morning. I’m going to attempt to fix some remaining bugs and try again, but I’m totally swamped right now. But I will always do my best to serve my readers, at least until I keel over from exhaustion ;).

  • 09.21.07 Jott2iGTD2.4 Ready… I think posted in Geekery

jott2igtd2 iconJott2iGTD 2.4 is ready for download, which should be especially good news for anyone who’s using an older version and didn’t make it into the beta testing round. It seems to be working for everybody and is revamped to work with the new Jott email format. Jott has become a source of frustration for me, though…

  • 09.20.07 MoodBlast goes Ninja (2.25) posted in Geekery

I was waiting for a couple of things to come through, but just couldn’t wait to get this version out. Those other things will be worth the wait, I think. For right now, MoodBlast now has the option to de-colorize the menubar item, hide it, enable a dock item, or go completely ninja, leaving behind just you and your hotkey. One of the big things coming up is a feed from Accuweather. It will be a big improvement in options and capabilities, and Accuweather was generous enough to provide us with a full international feed. They’re even setting up an international search feed so that we can continue to offer plain text city searches with the weather feature. Great folk. Sure beats the Weather Channel. That’s next week, so enjoy the new release for now. Just don’t forget your hotkey after you get all crazy with Ninja Mode!

  • 09.18.07 MoodBlast Recapitulation posted in Geekery

MoodBlast has gone classical with the release of 2.24. It now handles classical music, parsing for movement, composer and performer and creating an appropriate string. Classical fans, enjoy. In other news, Jott2iGTD is pretty much fixed, just waiting for a couple of stray bug reports to come back as confirmed fixes. Fun stuff.

  • 09.17.07 Peter Boysen: Galleria posted in Circle Six Happenings

Gallery 1Our resident photographer at Circle Six, Peter Boysen, has been kind enough to post a few photos to the blog gallery to liven things up a bit from my usual screenshots and snapshots. These photos were shot in our studio and represent a phase in Peter’s life I would like to dub the “Red Velour Thing With Seatbelts Period”. It’s his current obsession, and he’s been piling all manner of subjects on it, mostly human. So, without futher ado, I present Peter Boysen’s Galleria. There’s a wide sampling of Peter’s excellent work available at his blog.

  • 09.16.07 A Facebook Compromise posted in Geekery

Facebook PossibilityI’m working towards a Facebook compromise. It will allow MoodBlast to update your Facebook feed up to 10 times a day. Legally and using Facebook’s API (if we can call it that). It’s not as great as changing your status, but it will serve basically the same purpose. I originally wanted to just create a MoodBlast app for Facebook and have it updated by a desktop client, but that seems to be out-of-bounds, along with most useful API functions. So I’m working with what I’ve got.

  • 09.13.07 My Biggest Work Yet posted in Design

St. Croix Barricade ArtworkWell, when I’m not trying to write software, I’m usually designing. I just got pictures back from California of my biggest published piece to date. It’s a barricade for a shop installation, and I’ve forgotten the measurements because I got the job at 9:30pm and it was due by 11am the next day. But you can see in the picture the scale next to a human being. I’m finishing up a 24′x12′ billboard for another client right now, so that will rival it for large scale design…

  • 09.13.07 MoodBlast 2.23 (I was supposed to be working) posted in Geekery

Nobody tell Christy because I was supposed to be working this afternoon. I got fed up with having a bad day, though, and decided to have fun instead. I’ll make up for it tonight. Or maybe I’m just saying that in case the rest of my office is reading this. Anyway, MoodBlast 2.23 is out. It rocks a little, I think…
