Expanding Jott2iGTD2 (You can help!)

Note: This post is over a year old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

Jott support will be expanding and improving on Jott2iGTD2, but in the meantime I’m running into quite a few people (including the author of iGTD) who can’t use Jott because it’s US and Canada only. I’m looking to find similar services available in other countries that I can expand Jott2iGTD to support. If you have a service that you use, let me know and send me a sample email that it sends you. It doesn’t have to be a voice transcription service, it can be anything you use to send yourself emails when you’re on the road…

I would eventually like to have Jott2iGTD be able to expand support for plain old email task addition as well. With the new features in iGTD, it’s now possible to determine every aspect of a task quickly through an email sent by, say, a blackberry or cell phone. But there’s a certain amount of that functionality already built in to iGTD, so it’s a low priority right now.

I’m more interested in creating a service to send file links directly to the archive section of iGTD for tracking docs, pdfs, receipts, etc. That’s in the works. The new notifications feature in iGTD allows for such a service to be created unobtrusively, with no direct database access, so I’m excited about the possibilities.

    Brett,

    I don’t remember offhand whether or not it supports international users, but Backpack is another solution you might be interested in incorporating… I use it on a regular basis, and it’s great for email/sms reminders.

    Here’s the sample you asked for:

    ===================================================
    From: Backpack
    ===================================================

    REMINDER: Sample Email for Brett’s Jott2iGTD

    You can edit, snooze, or remove this reminder at:
    http://username.backpackit.com/reminders

    ===================================================

    The “From” field is not actually party of the email (neither are the “=” characters), but I know you’d need the address in order to parse.

    I used to use Backpack a lot. In fact, it was the ability to call the page (I can’t remember the name of the service) and leave voicemails on my homepage that inspired Jott2iGTD to begin with.

    What would actually be nice is an import from Backpack to iGTD with links back to the original pages. You could import each page as a project and the lists on the page as tasks. I’ve already got a bundle for TextMate that has most of the ruby code written for something like that…

    Sweet… That sounds like a killer piece!

    I’ll keep my eyes open on other ideas for you… but that Backpack “Page2Project” thing is dope!

Have your say
