  • 04.08.07 Better Code Display on C6 posted in Geekery

I finally got around to making the display of code better on the blog. The rest of this post is an example to test out a couple of TextMate drag commands, external code linking, scriptaculous effects and other niceties. If it all works, I’ll share all the tools.

  • 04.08.07 (Live and) learn SVN posted in Web Design, Geekery

I upgraded the blog to version 2.1.3 using subversion. I have a pretty decent workflow hammered out, but it was painful getting here. I can’t blog about it until I’ve smoothed out all the things I did wrong to start with. You wouldn’t believe how many times I ended up deleting the checkout that became my production version because I didn’t read the part of the book about the file:// protocol. We’ll have a lot of topics to cover when I’m ready:

  • 04.07.07 UTW-RPC Worpdress Plugin 1.3 released posted in Geekery

Thanks to a comment from surtin, a bug in UTW-RPC’s interaction with ecto has hopefully been fixed. The new release is available on the download page. I’m posting this from ecto with keywords, so if you see tags on this, it means it’s working alright.

  • 04.06.07 Finally Subverted posted in Geekery, Website Updates

I finally took a few minutes and finished learning what I needed to know about Subversion in order to get my entire blog under revision control. I now have a local working copy that I can modify and test with a local database, and then when it’s working I can commit the changes to the main repository. Then I just update the live install from the server and everything is synced up. Now I can revert my changes, keep a log, and feel a little safer when upgrading. And I can work from multiple machines without getting out of sync! I’m not convinced I’ve got the ideal workflow yet, but it’s working, and I’m happy. As I perfect the workflow, I intend for it to become a part of every web project I work on…

  • 04.06.07 iGTD 1.3.3 released posted in Geekery

Hot on the heels of the 1.3.2 release, iGTD gets another increment. This one adds nested projects, fixes the priority filter and improves on a few existing features. This app is developing very quickly. A week ago I loved it enough to donate right away, but if this keeps up, I may have to send more money.

  • 04.06.07 iGTD 1.3.2 released posted in Geekery

A new version of iGTD has been released and is available for download. It fixes a few bugs and adds smart folders for tags, which is an awesome feature. It’s a little hidden though, so if you’re using it, go to the “To Complete” view and press the plus key under the left side folders pane and you’ll get the smart folders dialog. As an example, if I procrastinate on a project, I add a tag to it–”procrastinate”–and then create a smart folder that lets me see what I really need to get my butt in gear on.

  • 04.05.07 Another VIRB (re)design posted in Website Updates

I got bored again. The microphone theme is going back up, but the VIRB profile is staying, no matter how bad it sucks.

  • 04.05.07 A Chilly Day to be Naked posted in Website Updates

We got some April snow here in Minnesota yesterday. But that didn’t stop me from stripping off my CSS and jumping in the CSS Naked Day lake. So if you’re here and it’s April 5th, you’re seeing my site at it’s nudest, most semantic state. I didn’t disable all of the stylesheets loaded by javascript (lightbox, extended live archives, etc.), so some parts of the site function strangely well in the context of a barren landscape, but I feel like I participated.

  • 04.04.07 Fresh Strawberry Design posted in Website Updates

Strawberry Blog Screen ShotAdmittedly not my best design ever, so I saved the microphone theme in its entirety until this is a little more smoothed out, but here’s my latest blog design. It’s got a light-up strawberry. Seriously, touch it. It’s scary. There are a lot of little hidden CSS tricks throughout the site, evidence that I’m getting better at my trade. I’m still very unhappy with the overall readability and having trouble finding that line between fun design and practical design. I’ll get there. I can do one or the other, I’m just working out how to combine them…

  • 04.02.07 iGTD Review: My Saviour posted in Geekery

iGTD Screen ShotTUAW beat me to the punch, but I’m happy to report that I have finally found the GTD app that I plan to stick with for a good long while now. iGTD has all of the features that I need and none that I don’t want. It’s got the fun of Actiontastic’s Quicksilver integration, the GTD mindset of Midnight Inbox, the multiple views of & ToDo / Task Management Application for Mac">Easy Task Manager, and it doesn’t look too shabby either…
