Fresh Strawberry Design

Note: This post is over a year old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

Strawberry Blog Screen ShotAdmittedly not my best design ever, so I saved the microphone theme in its entirety until this is a little more smoothed out, but here’s my latest blog design. It’s got a light-up strawberry. Seriously, touch it. It’s scary. There are a lot of little hidden CSS tricks throughout the site, evidence that I’m getting better at my trade. I’m still very unhappy with the overall readability and having trouble finding that line between fun design and practical design. I’ll get there. I can do one or the other, I’m just working out how to combine them…

    Man, I forgot there were some long category names when I made the “sell by” tag. Now I have to resize it to fit “Website Updates”.

    It might be a pain, but you could do a horizontally repeating background image of the texture and then include an div at the bottom with a background image of the bottom part of the “sell by” tag.

    Wow, another nice design. However, I have to say I still like the microphone design better. Don’t be too disappointed though, because I think the microphone design is one of the best blog designs I’ve seen ever.

    Keep up the good work though! If you’re not going to be using the microphone theme anymore, ever thought of releasing it so we can tinker with it? :)

    Oh, also - something about the page length is weird in Safari. It seems like I can’t scroll all the way to the bottom. It stops letting me scroll right after the “website” field in the comments form (typing this in BBEdit and pasting it in). On the homepage, the page seems to end just before the bottoms of the “RSS Strawberries”.

    Like the new design. Looks really good. Not sure though about the bottom strawberries that link to the rss feeds. Not to keen on them but apart from that it looks awesome Milo

    Well, I’m still undecided myself. It’s kind of what I saw in my head, but it just doesn’t feel quite as good as the mic. I fixed the Safari bug that Bill mentioned. I’ll give it a day and see how I feel tomorrow. Hopefully, I won’t scare away any regular visitors in the meantime ;).

    What program were you in when you took the screencap of the strawberry theme? I don’t recognize it…

    curious to release this new page right around CSS naked day, so basically nothing shows up. blasts.

    @Zack: CSSEdit

    @Peter: I was thinking I was going to leave it up for one more day and decide whether to switch back to the microphone theme… must have forgotten that I pre-programmed CSS naked day into it.

    Maybe, subconsciously, I had CSS naked day and CSS Reboot mixed up and just got my dates wrong ;).

    Aren’t we all looking for that halfway field! Nice work though.

    I see you changed clothes :)

    Yeah, I decided the strawberries were a step backwards. Nice, but not nice enough.

Have your say
