Jumping Jehosaphat, it’s working.

Note: This post is over a year and a half old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

I blogged about a system I was introducing to my workflow over the weekend. Well, Monday was a “getting used to it” day. But Tuesday, well, Tuesday just turned out to be one of the most productive days of my life. I can’t believe what a difference a few changes make…

The biggest factors:

  • Not checking email every 5 minutes
  • Not even checking it every 15 minutes ;-)
  • Immediately filing and putting into context every email, phone call and to-do item
  • Having software that helps me actively prioritize my next actions

I’ve only made some minor tweaks to the system so far, and nothing has been subtracted from my previous post. I’m still not entirely satisfied with EasyTask, but I wasn’t entirely satisfied with any of the others I tried, nor am I entirely satisfied with iCal on its own. At the end of this week, when I do a final analysis of this setup, I’ll detail what I’d like to see in a GTD program for OSX and see if anyone has any suggestions or knows of an app that’s headed in the same direction I am.

You might be interested to look at the newest beta of Actiontastic, it has mailtag integration (or mail integration via applescript), that is, if you decided EasyTask wasn’t the end all be all.

Sounds like the online service for Actiontastic will be sooner than later as well.

I was just trying it out, actually (Actiontastic Beta 7). EasyTask certainly isn’t the shiznit, but it’s got a couple features that I, as a GTD noob, find useful and hard to live without. I’m having trouble grasping the way that Actiontastic sorts my to-do list or how I’m supposed to deal with it. I don’t have that problem with EasyTask. It’s probably that I’m missing something.

Ultimately, I’d love to switch to Actiontastic, it looks better, works smoother and has a more loyal fanbase (which means better support). We’ll see. But it’s working for now ;).

Have your say
