I had to do a bit of editing, since the notifications and character count check seemed to work fine, but Twitter wasn't updating. Changing the line that runs the shell script to match the original Tweet script at http://blog.codahale.com/2007/01/15/tweet-twitter-quicksilver/ made it work.
Also, using the Twitter app on Facebook lets this double as a great way to update both on the fly. Awesome!

I’ve narrowed myself down to posting from Quicksilver and my cell phone when I’m away from my computer.

I wish I knew how to use Quicksilver when away from the computer.

@Matthew, thanks, that was a major problem for me. I had ended up hardcoding both username and password to get around it but would love to still have the password in keychain!

If anyone is having trouble with the AppleScript timing out when it checks the keychain, there's a command line way of doing things - I've just got this running (and on Panther as well.)

I also had a go in changing coda's script.

http://tint.de/twitunes-applescript

It's called TwiTunes and sends your currently playing iTunes track to your Twitter status. You can review the string sent and change it before sending. AND I took the time to create a pleasant icon for that, which took even longer than changing the script...

Unfortunately, AFAIK, there's no easy way to play a sound from Applescript without loading Quicktime or a helper app. That's too much overhead for something like this...
