Wordpress 2.1 Goodness

Note: This post is over a year and a half old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

I made the switch to Wordpress 2.1 with a grand total of 3 minutes of downtime on my live server. For anyone who’s curious, I did a full backup of the blog and set it up on my local server with MAMP and Headdress. The database was too large to import with phpmyadmin so I just did a dump and piped it in from the command line. I got my settings in MAMP as close as I could to my server’s settings. Then I ran the whole install on my local server and made all the necessary tweaks over the last couple of days. I copied all of the changed files, put up a temporary index.php page and went to work in the back end on the live server. I took the advice of the WP crew and disabled my plugins before installing for good measure. It updated the database in seconds and I re-activated my plugins (that I had previously verified) and moved the index.php back into place. And there it was. Now I just have to look for any bugs I missed ;-). Let me know if you run into any problems.

I’ll be putting some effort into a revised version of my autotag companion to Ultimate Tag Warrior and updating for the new release. I’m working on externalizing the plugin from the rest of the source. I’ve been using it through a modified XMLRPC file, which changed in 2.1 as well, so I already did some hacking on that. I’ll post some work in a while.

I just wanted to let you know that your feeds for this blog are now partial text and not full text feeds.

Thanks for the heads up, turns out it was a change in 2.1 that I wasn’t expecting. I’ve made some adjustments so that the feed will continue to be a full version. Brett
