Looking forward

Note: This post is over a year and a half old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

Based on feedback, questions and searches that have been coming into the blog, I’ve determined that a little more detail on a few topics is in order, so the following blog posts are in the works:

Teach Yourself TextMate: MacHeist put a lot of copies of TextMate on the street, and people like me are spouting off about the virtues of it, and there is a lot of interest being generated. However, it’s got a steep learning curve right off the bat, and a lot of people (like me) don’t deal well with screencasts, as pretty as they are. So I’m putting together a breakdown of how to figure out TextMate and make sense of things on your own. Not an all inclusive tutorial, nor a specific review of any bundle, but how to pick a bundle apart and make it work for you.

CSSEdit: A more detailed overview of my personal way of using CSSEdit and how it incorporates into my workflow.

CSS Debugging: A far more detailed list of the tools that make CSS debugging a pleasure instead of the biggest pain in web design.

And lastly, I’m announcing that I’m beginning work on a Wordpress Theme Bundle for TextMate. It’s at the end of this post because it will eventually get its own post when it’s ready to be put up on my Subversion account. It will probably incorporate Thomas Aylott’s new code completion library and an interface for quickly building templates with checkboxes to add sidebars and various plugin code. There will be snippets for all the major codex hooks and a good help file. It should be an invaluable tool, although development may take a while as my business is expanding this year and we’re going to have a (hopefully) huge workload ;-).

I’ve been looking for a Wordpress bundle for textmate - it would be the perfect marriage of two of the best software packages out there. The news has made me very happy (and if you make it donationware, I’ll donate to the cause). Shiny!

The bundle, like all of the bundles I write, will be open source. All I ask is your input and feedback, starting with: What would you like most to see? What is the most tedious part of coding a Wordpress theme for you? I know what I want personally, but I’d love to have an idea what other people are running in to as I get started with shaping the requirements for the bundle!

Have your say
