I’ve long recommended the Firebug extension for Firefox as an essential web developer’s tool. Along with Xylescope, it’s been a major tool for debugging all aspects of my web pages. But 1.0 Beta is out now, still free despite some rumors to the contrary, and it’s rapidly taking it’s place at the top of the heap as THE essential developer’s tool. New features, including live CSS editing (and CSS tools that remove the need for Xylescope), make CSS tweaking a breeze. And the XMLHttpRequest interface makes AJAX debugging a relatively simple task. A good screencast was posted yesterday that goes over some of the basic features and starts to show the advanced features. If you’re not using Firefox, here’s a good reason to switch, at least for web development ;-). www.getfirebug.com
