Binary Bliss

Note: This post is over 2 years old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

It’s been a computer day. I figured I’d tie up some loose ends on my last day of vacation, so I started early this morning and took care of a whole bunch of computer related chores around the house.

I turned a dead Dell into the new media center, an old eMachine into a PC testing center on a KVM switch with my powerbook docking station, and a refurbed HP into a home automation center/web surfing station for Aditi. All that and I came out with a computer to spare. Or sell, I suppose.

I’ve got an Airpanel that I have to figure out the most practical thing to do with. It could be a remote control for the media center/home automation, but it’s really slow for much else. We’ll see.

I like having the KVM switch setup back, which I haven’t since the Dell died on me. Now I can load up IE6/7 and test websites at the press of a button. One of these days I’ll get a MacBook Pro and run Parallels, but until then, this setup only cost me about $300 including the computer, so it’ll do just fine.

I’ve gotten some great feedback on the Backpack bundle today, including a mention on a few blogs. I’ve gotten one bug report, but haven’t heard back from the reportee yet, so I haven’t been able to fix it. Other than that, it seems to be working well for everyone, as far as I can tell. I’ll be making more progress with it next weekend. It’s going to be a crazy week after all these days off ;-).
