I fixed up the homepage a little bit. It matches the aesthetic for the blog now. I’d like to eventually incorporate the two under the same address, but I’ve got so much traffic coming in from Google I’m afraid to make any major changes to the subdomain structure. I should have put the blog in a subdirectory to begin with. Live and learn.
The goal of the new design on the homepage is to show a “business” web page with lightweight graphics and semantic markup, a little javascript and valid XHTML and CSS. It should load quickly and be standards compliant, while still looking attractive. I need to work a little on the visual accessibility, but that’s a project for this evening.
I’m not going to put a lot more time into the Circle Six Homepage. From here on out, it’s going to mirror the aesthetic of the blog, which is where I will focus my design time. I want the blog to be the main focus of the site, as it drives most of the traffic. That’s why I’ve moved the portfolio here and added all of the “About” and “Contact” pages to it. The original homepage is basically a legacy site now, and a placeholder for the domain name. Poor planning. Of course, we didn’t have a blog when I registered the domain, but a subdirectory would have been a great idea. I need to stop kicking myself and just work on solutions, though ;-).
