Circle Six (re)Design

Note: This post is over 2 years old. You may want to check later in this blog to see if there is new information.

The last theme... the Web 2.0 joke was over.I’ve gone and redesigned the blog again. The web 2.0 joke wore off for me. If anyone wants the buttons, you can have ‘em ;-). So here’s the new “fantasy” design. A Midsummer Night’s Dream inspired. Because it’s almost Fall and I miss Summer.

I’m very open to comments on the new design. Is it too unprofessional? Is it too dark? Is it just spectacular? Let me know. If you’re viewing it in Internet Explorer 6 or lower, I’ve done my best to give you a decent page, but you’re not getting the full effect. I’ll be making a lot of tweaks over the next week as time allows.

I started with the Hemingway theme for Wordpress and worked from there. I stole some ideas from K2, some code from the codex and put together a pretty decent theme. I built some custom blocks for the bottom bar, and hacked together a new loop for the different types of pages to try and consolidate things more like K2. I’m pretty happy with the code end of things. I’m never happy with the design…

I must say that I adore it, overall. I’ve never been hugely fond of the “below the post blocks” idea, but you’ve made it actually look decent. I like that you’ve retained the “light up” effect on your main section links, and the mirrored foliage bits add some nice flavor to it. The little fireflies rock, too!

My only complaints are that the initial load was a bit slower than usual, but now that its cached it just zips along, and the bottom scrollbar (only at 1024x768 or lower) which has no actual reason for existing as far as I can see, but it’s there none the less.

Thanks for the feedback. I fixed the bottom scrollbar issue, thanks for pointing it out, it’s good all the way down to 700 pixels wide now. That should take care of just about everybody. Except for those pesky 640x480 users, which I don’t get *any* of, according to mint ;-). I actually do on one of my other sites.

My wife likes the fireflies, too. I’m a little sketchy on them. They were supposed to be some kind of magical fairies, but how weird is that? I’ve been feeling a little feverish lately.
